Robizon Khubulashvili on Rating Disclosure and Player Behavior in Online Gaming Platforms

ISET hosted a Research Seminar featuring Robizon Khubulashvili, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the University of San Francisco and an alumnus of ISET’s MA in Economics program. The seminar brought together students, faculty, and researchers to discuss emerging evidence on how information design shapes user behavior in online environments.

Dr. Khubulashvili presented his research titled “Disappointment Aversion and Rating Disclosure for Online Gaming Platforms,” which examines how players respond to different ways of presenting performance information. Based on Chess.com game data, the research finds that rating disclosure affects player effort and accuracy: hiding precise ratings can improve play quality in fast games, while exact ratings may better sustain effort in slower games.

Participants engaged in an active Q&A session, reflecting strong interest in the intersection of behavioral economics and digital platform governance.
